Farnaz’s overall aim of research is to understand how the contemporary design and
arrangement of work affect the sense of identity, image management, and well-being of
workers in the gig economy. Currently, she is investigating how and through what
mechanisms the use of algorithms and gamification of work impacts digital gig workers. She
is also interested in how different aspects of social identity (e.g., gender, nationality, accent,
etc.) combine to shape a person’s image and affect how they are perceived and evaluated at
work.

Prior to joining McMaster, Farnaz received her MBA from K.N. Toosi University and her B.S.
in Material Science and Engineering from Sharif University of Technology.
