The Exchange Application Process

Requirements
A Selection Committee made up of faculty and academic counselors reviews each exchange application. For MBA candidates the general stream works best with an exchange, but other streams may be possible.
Is there an interview?
Yes, (if you are on work term, the interview will be conducted over the phone)
Scholarships
DeGroote offers externally funded scholarships for MBA students going on exchange! These are awarded based on academic merit. Below is a list of some of the funding available to exchange participants.
How to Apply & Important Dates Application deadline
The third Monday in January; In the case that this date falls on a recognized holiday, the deadline will be extended to Tuesday of that week.
- Applications may be accepted after this deadline depending on space. Any applications received after the third Monday in January will be reviewed on a first-come first-serve basis.
- Also, application deadlines may vary depending on the academic calendar of the school being applied. Please check the individual school pages for more information.
- Completed “McMaster University – DeGroote School of Business Application to Participate in International Exchange Program” form
- Application forms are to be downloaded from http://www.degroote.mcmaster.ca/exchange/documents/bizx_app.pdf
- A copy of your resume – 2 pages maximum

Travel and living costs:
You must be able to cover the travel and living costs associated with the exchange experience. Tuition and incidental fees are paid at McMaster, using the McMaster fee structure. The travel and living costs vary with each specific exchange program. ** Note that scholarships are available for students going on exchange, for more information please see below!
Passport & visa requirements
You need a valid passport for the duration of your exchange. Visa requirements differ by country and it is your responsibility to ensure that all criteria are met.
Language proficiency
Do I need to be able to speak the native language? You have to be proficient in the language that you are going to be taught in. English is the most common language at our partner schools; please check the individual school pages for more information. But still knowledge of the local language is valuable to fully experience the cultural part of an exchange.
When will I find out if I have been accepted?
- Interviews are the beginning of February
- Offer letters will be mailed out at the end of February
- After receiving your letter you have ten days to accept the offer
- In the case of applications submitted after the third Monday in January, sending of the offer letter will depend on the date of submission and approval.
