Faculty Profile

Kiri Kanagaretnam

Associate professor Giri Kanagaretnam looks at accounting standards and the flexibility within those standards that can allow incentive-driven managers to capitalize on opportunistic benefits such as bonus clauses and pay incentives.

Using archived financial data, Kanagaretnam analyzes how CEO compensation, specifically stock options, influences stock performance and how executives can be motivated to manipulate results and earnings.

Kanagaretnam also looks at the ways corporate governance can facilitate or prevent the collusion of directors and chief executives in enehancing each other's compensation.
