Area of Expertise
Dr. Ray’s research interest is in Industrial and Retail Marketing strategies, focusing on Strategic Pricing and Distribution Channel issues. Recent topics of his research include Asymmetric and Dynamic Pricing in the grocery retail sector, and Systems Marketing practices in high-tech markets. He explores both profit and policy implications of such marketing strategies using theoretical and empirical quantitative methodologies.
Professional Activities
Dr. Ray is often invited to present his research in prestigious institutions, conferences and workshops around the globe. He was recently invited to publicly speak on the topic of pricing policy regulations, by Michigan State Legislature’s Commerce Committee. His papers have been published or are forthcoming in journals like Marketing Science, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Business Venturing and Managerial and Decision Economics. Prestigious funding agencies that have supported his research include the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada and Fonds Québécois de la Recherche sur la Société et la Culture (FQRSC) of Quebec, Canada. He was also awarded the Ronald Vaile Fellowship Award for Research in Marketing by the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota. He has supervised and works closely with several graduate students on their master’s and doctoral dissertations. He is a frequent reviewer for a number of reputed journals and granting agencies, and serves on the editorial board of the journal E-Commerce Research and Applications.

Dr. Ray teaches at the MBA, and undergraduate levels. Channels, technology marketing, and retailing are his primary teaching interests within Marketing. He has been nominated for the best teacher award in the John Molson School of Business in Concordia University, Montreal. At the Carlson School of Management in University of Minnesota, he was given the best graduate student teacher award in marketing.

Dr. Ray has consulted for several Fortune 100 firms in the aviation, chemical and consumer products sectors, and has worked as a marketing executive in the information technology industry. He also worked as an aeronautical design engineer and has published papers in refereed academic journals in the area.
