Faculty Profile

GEORGE STEINER

Operations Management
Professor
Area of Expertise
Professor Steiner specializes in production planning and scheduling problems and the development of analytical models for the efficient allocation of resources among competing activities. He teaches courses on Operations Management, Decision Analysis, Management Science, Operations Modelling with Spreadsheets, and Scheduling. His research interests include the analysis of scheduling models, combinatorial optimization algorithms on graphs and networks and the efficient generation of combinatorial objects by computers. Many of these problems are at the interface of Management Science, Mathematics and Computer Science.
Professional Activities
Professor Steiner’s research on scheduling problems has been published in journals such as Operations Research, Management Science, Transactions of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, Naval Research Logistics, Annals of Operations Research and Operations Research Letters. His articles on graph algorithms have appeared in SIAM J. on Computing, J. of Graph Theory, J. of Algorithms, Discrete Applied Mathematics, Information Processing Letters and other scholarly journals. Professor Steiner is a Fellow of The Institute of Combinatorics and Its Applications, a member of the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and the Canadian Operational Research Society.
