Learn Through Experience

DSB-B123-(2)Your DeGroote experience is more than what you learn from your professors. Getting involved and engaging with other motivated students, faculty, alumni and business professionals also helps you develop your skills and confidence. There are many different ways you can get experience, reinforce what you learn in the classroom, and build your network and resume.

Think about adding an internship, co-op or exchange to your studies. It’s a great way to get experience and it will give you an advantage when you’re starting your career after graduation.

Join one of the DeGroote clubs or associations. There are business case competition teams you can join as well. (Keep your eye out for announcements or talk to one of the faculty coaches for more information.) We also hold events and workshops to help you develop your soft skills and personal network.

Through our mentorship program you can develop a one-on-one relationship with an alumnus who works in the industry in which you’re interested. You can get valuable insight and coaching from an experienced mentor. Contact the Career and Professional Development office if you’re interested.

Plus, watch for other campus-wide clubs and extracurricular activities here at McMaster. Getting involved will add to your experience and help you make valuable connections.
