Description

The goal of technology has always been to streamline our daily lives and make things easier. However, we can argue that prior to the pandemic, it was doing the opposite. We were working at a faster pace than ever and juggling more than we thought possible. When the pandemic hit, technology supported us exactly how it was meant to – keeping us connected to our work, family and friends, and making those processes easier while we all slowed down and stayed home.

As we look ahead and begin to see parts of our daily lives return to normal, how can we make sure we are continuing to take care of our emotional well-being? Technology can help or hinder the pressure we feel in our daily jobs and responsibilities, so how do we continue to slow down as we look toward the future?

Natasha Sharma, BCom ’00, Founder, NKS Therapy

“Dr. Natasha Sharma is an internationally recognized authority on the psychology of Relationships, Motivation, and Emotional Wellness. She is the owner of NKS Therapy, creator of the best-seller The Kindness Journal , and co-creator of The 8-Hour Therapist. Her TEDx Talk “Why What We Feel Matters More Than What We Think” has over a Quarter Million Views on YouTube.

Natasha has been featured on Global News Toronto, CP24, Breakfast Television, The Agenda, The Morning Show, CBC Radio, and Your Morning, and quoted in major publications like The New York Times, The Toronto Star, and The Globe and Mail. She has been a key correspondent for public Mental Health during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Natasha is devoted to inspiring and helping people learn the “How” behind “How To Be Happier” and live more satisfying fulfilling lives. Her current focus is turning complex psychological concepts into simple and effective tools that allow people to apply these concepts in their everyday life, in order to create lasting positive change. In her spare time she sings, plays guitar and piano, writes poetry, travels the world (when it was possible!), plays tennis, practices Karate, and spends oodles of time with her 2 boys!

Catherine Connelly, BCom ’99, Professor, DeGroote School of Business

Dr. Catherine Connelly holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Organizational Behaviour, and is a member of the College of New Scholars of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC). She is a former associate editor for Human Relations and currently serves on the board of the Journal of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management Review.

Her research focuses on the attitudes, behaviours, and experiences of non-standard workers (e.g., temporary agency workers, contractors, temporary foreign workers), the effects of leadership styles on leader well-being, and knowledge hiding in organizations. Catherine also conducts applied research with several Canadian organizations in both the private and non-profit sector.

In addition to her research success, Catherine is a past winner and frequent teaching award nominee for her teaching in the MBA and PhD programs. She has made presentations about her research to industry and academic groups across Canada and the US, and in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. Her research has been featured in the New York Times, the Globe and Mail, the National Post, and on CTV and CBC radio and TV.
