Dr. Yuan is an expert in the fields of mobile commerce, information security and privacy, business analytics, online negotiation, human-computer interaction, fuzzy logic, decision making in health care, and matching problems.

Dr. Yuan teaches two PhD courses: K792 Information Security, Privacy, and Trust and K793 Research in Mobile Commerce and Social Networks. He also teaches a MBA course K723 Data Mining and Business Intelligence, and three undergraduate IS courses: 3KA3 System Analysis and Design, 3KD3 Database Design and Management, and 4KG3 Data Mining and Business Intelligence.
Dr. Yuan has supervised 11 PhD students, 5 visiting PhD students, 7 Postdoctoral fellows, and collaborated with 22 visiting scholars. Many of them made high quality publications. He enjoys supervising and working with highly motivated, excellent PhD students and visiting scholars
Dr. Yuan has received multiple grants from NSERC, SSHRC, and other government agencies for research in frontier fields such as Information security, business analytics, social media, mobile work force support, identity theft prevention, and emergency response systems. He has published more than 90 papers in high quality journals such as MIS Quarterly, Journal of MIS, European Journal of Information systems, Information & Management, Communications of the ACM, IEEE Security and Privacy, International Journal of Mobile Communications, Group Decision and Negotiation, Decision Support Systems, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, International Journal of Human-Computer Studies, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Sciences, Management Sciences and others.
Dr. Yuan has been actively involved in many professional organizations. He served as Conference Chair for ICMB 2007 (International Conference on Mobile Business) and Program Co-Chair for AMCIS 2008 (Americas Conference on Information Systems), and a Guest Co-Editor for a special issue of Group Decision and Negotiation. He is the Editorial Board Member of IJMC (International Journal of Mobile Communications) and others. Dr. Yuan was appointed as Wayne C. Fox Chair in Business Innovation in 2002-2008 and his name is listed in Who’s Who in Canada.
