The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University recently adopted a new strategic plan with a mission to foster inter-disciplinary thinking and evidence-based management to transform business and society. We are one of six faculties at McMaster and we believe in experiential learning: complementing classroom studies with hands-on experience. The school has over 2,300 undergraduate students, 600 MBAs, 60 PhDs and 70 full-time faculty members.

We also host three research centres and eight research chairs that contribute to the prosperity of society at large and provide value to business. We operate at two campuses, the McMaster University main campus in Hamilton, Ontario and a new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Burlington, Ontario, which houses the MBA and executive programs. Hires can be expected to be active at both locations; teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses as well as in our professionally oriented executive development programs.

We invite applications for tenure-track positions in the following areas. The appointments will commence July 1, 2017, (unless otherwise stated), although an earlier appointment date is possible.

Mackenzie Investments Chair in Evidence-Based Investment Management

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a position in the Finance and Business Economics Area to be filled at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure. The position will commence on July 01, 2017. The successful candidate will hold the Mackenzie Investments Chair in Evidence-Based Investment Management and will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through publications in high quality journals in financial economics, participation in prominent national and international academic conferences, and research guidance in his/her area/s of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the School’s academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations, to participate in executive education programs, and support the School’s initiatives within the business community. The appointment to the chairship will be for an initial five-year period, with the possibility of renewal for additional terms. Salary is commensurate with experience.

The Finance and Business Economics Area is committed to excellence in both research and teaching, and is one of eight Areas comprising the DeGroote School of Business. The School offers a number of programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Finance and Business Economics Area participates in these programs in a number of ways, including MBA specializations in Finance and Strategic Business Valuation, Master of Finance, and a Ph.D. field in Finance. Finance — Tenure Track Position at the Rank of Assistant Professor

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through publications in high quality journals in financial economics, participation in prominent national and international academic conferences, and research supervision in his/her area/s of expertise. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the School’s academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations, and support the School’s initiatives within the business community.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated competency in research initiatives and outcomes, including peer-reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, and/or securement of grants. Evidence of excellence in teaching is also a must. Candidates will have a PhD in Finance or Financial Economics, with, ideally, cross-over interests or research proficiency in Big Data & Innovative Financial Technologies.

Professor of Strategy — Open Rank, McMaster University

Rank is open but preference will be given to Associate and Full Professor candidates. The appointment will commence July 1, 2017, although an earlier appointment date may be possible.

Accounting and Financial Management Services — Teaching Track Assistant Professor Position

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a teaching track position in the Accounting and Financial Management Services Area to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will commence on September 1, 2016. The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree or higher, for example an MBA from a ranked program, with a strong quantitative training in either undergraduate or graduate studies. A professional accounting designation is highly desirable. The successful candidate will possess excellent teaching/classroom skills and will be expected to contribute to the School’s academic programs at both its Hamilton and Burlington locations. Courses that the successful candidate will be expected to teach include a subset of the following: Accounting Theory, Financial Reporting, Managerial Accounting, Advanced Managerial Accounting, Auditing, and Advanced Financial Reporting. S/he will also be expected to contribute to research and scholarship through attendance at research workshops in accounting and possibly cognate disciplines and participation in prominent national and international academic conferences. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Assistant Professor of Operations Management

The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure track position in Operations Management at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2017.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Management Science, Operations Management or other closely-related discipline. We are interested in both new (or, soon-to-be) PhD graduates as well as individuals currently serving at the Assistant Professor rank  who have outstanding research skills and a passion for teaching to contribute to the life of the faculty.

The successful candidate will have strong Operations Research/Management Science skills in one or more methodological areas such as stochastic modelling, optimization (e.g., linear, integer, non-linear, large-scale or dynamic) and applied game theory. The Area will look for a researcher with expertise and interest in one or more application areas including supply chain management, business analytics, revenue management and transportation research. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated competency in research initiatives and outcomes, such as peer-reviewed journal publications and conference presentations. The new faculty member will be expected to pursue and secure research funding from external sources.

The Operations Management Area offers a Ph.D. program in Management Science and a specialization in Supply Chain Management in the MBA program. The new faculty member is expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses including our core courses in statistics, management science and operations management, and required and elective courses in the MBA and PhD programs.
