MBA students, we need you! Looking for enthusiastic mentors and judges for the first Social Hackathon event in our brand new course!

The Commerce program has implemented an exciting and highly experiential set of courses, that are encapsulated within The GR0 Program. These courses offer you experiential learning events, addressing today’s workplace expectations and supporting your development of communication, collaboration, problem-solving and self-management skills.

We are jumping into an exciting experiential event in our brand-new course, 3GR0- Student Experience and Development III, offered in both the Fall and Winter terms this academic year. The experiential event for this course is a Social Hackathon, focused on how non-profits, local government and grassroots organizations can inspire greater civic engagement and volunteerism among young people. With this topic in mind, our students will work in groups of 5 and develop presentations, addressing the challenges and invoking inspiration. Our top 25 teams will present LIVE in front of a panel of judges, community partners and their peers.

  • What is a hackathon? A hackathon is a time-restricted event where groups of participants innovate solutions to a problem.
  • When is this happening? The Fall 2022 social hackathon kicks-off on Monday, October 31
  • We are actively recruiting:
    • Mentors to provide virtual support to student teams between November 4-13
    • Judges to attend and score the finalist presentations on November 28, between 10:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.

The time commitment is modest, we hope this will be a rewarding way for you to engage with students, providing formative guidance and helping to shape the next generation of business professionals.
