Greensuits 2021: A Message from your First Year Experience Coordinator

A few words from Momina Qureshi, the new First Year Experience Coordinator:

A new vision. A new student leadership position. A new Welcome Week team. Pivoting to create the optimal first-year experience.

It’s no surprise that over the past year, we have been thrust into the unknown.  I know that you, DeGroote students, have proudly embraced this new environment. Because we are strong. Resilient. Creative. Because we are a family. This past year, we have shown that we work differently, we socialize differently, and at McMaster last Fall, we welcomed first-years into our DeGroote community differently. Sometimes, “different” opens our eyes to new, unique opportunities, and that’s exactly the case with Welcome Week 2021.

I am very excited to lead this new student leadership initiative for DeGroote as the First-Year Experience Coordinator, as a pilot program for Welcome Week 2021. To ensure an exceptional experience for both Greensuit representatives and incoming first-year students, we are starting with a deep dive into past years’ successes and challenges.

Supported by both, the DCS and DeGroote, my vision for this program is based on the following values:

Transparency | Communication | Growth & Development

We are breaking the norm of past years through a pivot of the Welcome Week vision and operations, integrating new opportunities for our team, and ultimately giving back to McMaster through delivering a seamless and memorable transition for the next generation of DeGroote students.

We are moving away from what we have always done, starting with our new Greensuits Leadership Team, which in the past was two co-planners with several students in executive roles.

Come join me to create this new collaboration with a shared commitment to lead with purpose.
