The Career Mentor Program (CMP) is comprised of one Senior Career Mentor and a team of Career Mentors who foster active career engagement within the DeGroote BCom community.

Career Mentors (CMs) are student employees with Career and Professional Development (CPD) who assist with many facets of career services. Career Mentors have two primary roles throughout the year.

In the Fall term, CMs will support Level 3 students as they navigate the BCom with internship program by reviewing resumes and cover letters, analyzing job postings, and providing mentorship experiences.

In the Winter term, the role involves supporting students registered in Commerce 2IN0 through in-class facilitation of mock interviews, networking sessions, and foundational resume/cover letter assistance.

Additionally, CMs will aid and promote the many professional development events offered through CPD including, but not limited to: Networking Evenings, Fall Preview, and Mock Interview Night, as well as contribute to CPDs marketing strategies as needed.

Commerce 2IN0 is a career development course focused on equipping Level 2 students with the tools necessary for a successful summer job search, with the opportunity to apply for the internship program once they return in the fall of 3rd year.

Career Mentor responsibilities include:

• Provide career mentorship within Commerce 2IN0
• Support the BCom with Internship Program
• Perform resume and cover letter critiques; conduct mock interviews and mock networking scenarios in class as well as during drop-in hours
• Meet with students to discuss career related questions/concerns
• Identify opportunities for CMP involvement within the DeGroote community
• Represent CMP at various prospective and current student events throughout the year
• Assist with the facilitation of career workshops and activities
• Promote CPD services and resources to all BCom students
